Targeted at individual translators and reviewers, the two-day memoQ training will focus on workflows and solutions, not features and commands – but this doesn’t mean you won’t learn them. They’ll just be presented in the context of typical translation and review workflows. If you don’t know memoQ or have just basic knowledge, after the course you’ll feel confident and be able to work efficiently. If you already work with memoQ, you can attend just the second day with more “advanced” scenarios to increase your productivity, but it’s very likely that you would nonetheless benefit from attending both days.
Marek is a certified memoQ trainer who has written three ebooks on memoQ functionalities: Machine Translation, Tags and Templates. Every attendee may select one for free (in one of the available languages). For more information go to https://payhip.com/Wasaty.
First day: Introduction to the basics
Anyone with at least a basic understanding of translation processes, including persons working with memoQ without formal training – you’ll find many useful things you don’t know yet!
Translating in memoQ: Basic translation workflow, including project creation, translation, text navigation, handling tags, QA and generating target files. Handling large projects and collaboration: You will learn how to join multiple files in “views”, how to filter and sort, handle external review and re-import revised files as well as version control and approving changes.
Handling linguistic resources:
Importing translation memories and terminology, leveraging existing bilingual and monolingual references along with bitexts made from previous translations (alignment).
memoQ can handle 14 MT engines, and you’ll learn how to configure and use this feature.
Online projects and interoperability:
You will learn how to work with memoQ server projects and how to handle memoQ and SDL Studio packages.
Second day: Advanced stuff – and more fun!
Those with an introduction to the basics as well as translators and reviewers who know memoQ well enough that the first day of training was not needed. Both groups will benefit from knowledge of the subjects covered in this part.
Advanced file handling:
When it comes to file import, there’s lot more under the hood – you’ll learn how to fine-tune content imported for translation from popular file formats including Microsoft Word and Excel, and how to handle multilingual Excel files and basic XML.
Working with change-tracking:
memoQ handles change-tracked files, and now you’ll know how.
Many of the default settings are geared towards translation – you’ll learn what to change, plus tips and tricks for efficient review depending on the source format.
More on QA:
There’s a lot to learn about Quality Assurance, and while I can’t promise you’ll learn everything there is to know, you’ll be able to use it more efficiently.
TM and TB editing:
You already know how to import translation memories and term bases, but you’ll also learn how to maintain them, including the removal of duplicates.
There’s a lot of automation available for project creation and processing, and you can make your life easier and save some time with project templates.
